The Ultimate Guilty Pleasure

Since my mom oversaw the installation of my cable last Thursday, I have watched 12 episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210. This is totally embarrassing and I hope admitting it to the world will curb my enthusiasm (or make me start watching Curb Your Enthusiasm, a show people can watch and seem cool). I’ve had many guilty pleasures before, but this is getting completely out of hand already. Comcast gives me SoapNet, which runs three 90210 episodes a day. I am lost to the overly dramatic storylines and truly horrible 1990s fashion. I am doing my homework with more focus so I can squeeze in all the episodes I’ve DVRed. I’m DVRing it right now while I’m at work!

Guilty pleasures are one of my favorite things to learn about other people. For instance, I recently I discovered that one of my friends collects Hard Rock CafĂ© t-shirts. This actually delighted me because prior to this revelation I think we both considered him to be cooler than me. He would still maintain that he is, I’m sure, but this sounds like a guilty pleasure to me and the playing field just got a lot more level. Yes!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

What's DVRed? If it means I'll have to learn how to turn on a TV, don't bother explaining.

I just discovered your blog and I hope and pray that your love and desire for 90210 is just as strong as it was back on September 30th. There is absolutely NOTHING you should feel guilty about. That show is brilliant!!!

90210 is one of the greatest American contributions to television and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. 90210 was revolutionary in the way it discussed contemporary social issues (teen pregnancy, AIDS, alcoholism, gambling oh and sooo many more!!) and the plot lines, though better in the high school years, are so engaging. I love 90210 and I am insanely jealous that you get SoapNet!

No guilt! Only pride in the fact that you can recognize quality American programming!
